Give me an idea -
Theory, fable or speculation -
Throw it to me
Like you'd give a dog a bone.
Let me gnaw at it,
Sink
These freshly flossed teeth,
Run
my tongue
over it's
osseous
topography,
Get a feel
For underlying form -
Gristle and all.
I'll carry it around
For days,
Weeks -
Til I throw out my neck
And the carpet's a mess.
I'll show it to anyone
Who cares to look:
The ruts, jutts, and scars,
The symmetry
And inconsistencies.
Might even let them have a chew,
If so inclined.Â
And when I've tired
of turning it
Over
And
Over
With hands and head,
I'll bury it in the garden
And forget.
Find new bones to pick,
sparrows to chase.
But one day I'll remember
And dig it back up
All knuckles and knees
Inspect where grit, grime and time
Have settled into the grooves
And discover again
what I once knew
